Thank you for coming!!
RECAP
- Tim Larew is deeply rooted in storytelling and writing, having been born and raised in Connecticut with a passion for sports.
- He has worked at a radio station, beena commentator, and broadcasted for sports media
- While broadcasting, Tim started a blog dedicated to music, focusing on emerging artists, where he saw an opportunity to add value and support through his writing.
- In sports media, he often felt like a sideline reporter, seeing criticism that didn't offer much value; this realization propelled him to focus more on blogging about upcoming musical talent.
- His unique involvement in both music and sports provided him with a diverse perspective and connections, which later allowed him to build an agency focused on managing and growing artists in both industries.
- Despite the prominence of cities like New York and Los Angeles, Tim believes in the untapped opportunities outside these major hubs, where he could establish his own credibility and add value with less competition.
- Building networks and discovering artists early on was crucial to his success.
- When he first started managing, Tim experienced imposter syndrome and had little knowledge about the music industry, but his role as a creative partner became essential.
- Important managerial qualities include honesty, not just being a 'yes man,' providing constructive criticism, and offering creative support as an idea generator, all while creating opportunities for the artist.
- Sports remain a significant part of Tim's life, reminding him to be present in his occupation as opportunities come through.
- Tim does not aim for a traditional role but thrives at the intersection of sports and music, consistently engaging in new projects and finding fulfillment in being immersed in both worlds.
- Comparing audiences, music fans tend to be more fickle, making it harder for artists to build a lasting fanbase, whereas sports fans actively participate and engage with the sport.
- For musicians, the long game is essential; shortcuts are prevalent today but not always sustainable.
- There is a growing emphasis on long-term investments in athletes, teaching them success beyond sports—a practice Tim believes should be mirrored in the music industry, which currently acts predatory and lacks transparency.
- The athlete mindset of regiment and discipline is critical in achieving success.
- Success varies across industries; to venture into a new one, being present and having a child-like curiosity are vital.
- Attending relevant events and spaces is essential to meet others in the desired industry.
- At times, Tim lost sight of his goals, feeling out of place, but there's no shame in being curious and reassessing.
- Embracing the 'mamba mentality' means a refusal to fail, continuously striving until success is achieved, but Larew also highlights that loving what you do and being determined are paramount for long-term success.
