RECAP

- Desiree Contreras grew up in LA, her journey into styling and graphic design was unexpected, beginning with a random and whim call to Brooks College, where she enrolled in the graphic design program, being part of its inaugural class.

- Seeking an internship to graduate, Desiree landed a role at West Coast Choppers without initially knowing its celebrity ties, including founder Jesse James and Sandra Bullock.

- After Jesse James and Sandra Bullock divorced, and the brand moved to Texas, Desiree transitioned to embroidery, a field she initially disliked due to feeling not well trained, and its pressures.

- She attempted to pivot by designing a clothing line and selling at events; although initial sales at a booth were promising, they eventually dwindled, but through this she discovered a love for creating and selling her own work.

- After nine years at an embroidery company, she returned to graphic design but was unexpectedly let go, prompting a grueling 130-day work streak to stabilize her finances.

- Desiree landed a significant order from Frito-Lay through a friend, producing 600 polos, enabling her to leave her parents' home and secure her own space.

- The COVID-19 pandemic severely affected her as she contracted COVID Pneumonia, taking four months to recover and losing her business.

- Adapting to challenges, Desiree launched a mobile embroidery business, providing on-the-spot services and was also teaching embroidery classes as a luxury craft.

- Her success lies in personalizing embroidery as a form of self-expression, with the next goal to have her embroidery projects reach space.
