LAUSD Schools Update

As of Jan. 21, 5:00 a.m.

Schools and all offices remain open, though some schools remain relocated due to the impact of the Palisades fire.

Schools have been advised that they may implement inclement weather schedules should conditions in their area call for it, and schools can switch to indoor activity schedules as needed, depending on local conditions.

Masks are available for students and staff. All air filters at schools were recently inspected and replaced as needed.

Air purifiers have been provided to schools that were most directly impacted by the recent fires, and more are being distributed.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue navigating through marginal weather conditions. Please know that we are here to support you every step of the way, and we have resources available for students, families, and employees on lausd.org.

One of our co-workers lost her home in the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Here is her check list of tips and details for how to work with insurance:

  1. File a total loss report with insurance asap
  2. File a report with Fema
  3. Call Tax Assessor's office to report total loss of structure (they will issue a moratorium on property taxes immediately)
  4. Lots of businesses offer a discount for fire victims (William Sonoma, Pottery Barn etc)
  5. Have insurance issue a letter of total loss, you will need that to get discounts
  6. Document Everything
    1. Take photos of the burned down structure
    2. Local government will also subsidize/cover costs for the demo of the debris
    3. Demo company has to be state certified because of the toxic debris
